My brother has decided to replace his Miata. He wants a Wrangler, so we’ve been looking around. Found this clean 5-speed/4.0L TJ for $6400 today. What does Oppo think of this?

Exceptional Jeep in excellent condition with low miles (130,497). No dents, rust, leaks, wrecks or off road use. Included are both hard and soft tops and also two sets of wheels and tires. I am selling to free up garage space (too many cars). Please note that it is a 5-speed manual transmission.

Looks decent but I would crawl all under the thing with a flashlight to check for rust. It’s in Ohio.

Check for rust - the tubs should have been galvanized, so any rust on the body would mean it hasn’t been looked after well. I would say that’s a solid buy though.

Would plan on getting an inspection done to verify that it’s a solid as the owner says it is.

what everyone else said. RUST. rust eats through these things faster than a fat girl at golden corral. Not just the body, either. check the frame carefully around the steering box and control arm mounts. I’ve seen them cracked to the point where the steering box is basically holding the frame together.

If it’s clean, then definite NP. the 4.0 and AX15 are pretty durable. any jeep guy will tell you that’s just getting broken in. The dual tops is nice. i’m guessing by the half doors in the picture, it was originally a soft top and the hard top was added (there was no dual top factory option on TJ). so this means it won’t be wired for rear wiper or rear defroster. but you can buy kits to wire it from Quadratec.

Also, it’s from Toledo! that’s where all jeeps (wrangler/cj) have been built since 1941.

Definitely going to be on the lookout for rust.

Never would’ve noticed the half doors if you hadn’t mentioned it, so thanks for the heads up there.

If its rust free then thats a goddamn steal. Jeep TJ’s here in Ohio are either rusted the hell, worn ragged, or if they’re clean they’re way more expensive then that.

Worth asking, IMO. A 44 is a decent axle, the 35c not so much. Not saying it’s a deal breaker, but the 44 makes it more of a NP
